In
most european vehicles today, they do not have bolts that protrude
from the rotors to make changing tires an easy task. In some high
end luxury vehicles, the tires can weigh at least 60 pounds!
1. Park your vehicle in a flat location, and
begin jacking up the vehicle.
2. When the vehicle is high enough, place
a safety stand on the bottom frame. Lower the jack until the vehicle
seats safely on the jack stands. |
3.
When removing bolts, you can use a powered impact gun. It's best to carefully
remove the bolts with a four-way wrench or a socket on a breaker bar.
An impact wrench may damage the bolts or destroy the threads in the bolt
hole therefore you must do it slowly.
4.
Remove wheel, and install the appropriate wheel hanger on the twelve
o'clock position of the rotor. This will allow the tire to hang
on to the wheel hanger. Hence the name, "Wheel Hanger"
5. When placing the tires back onto the rotors,
use the wheel hanger to glide the wheel back into place. Make sure
the five holes are aligned between the rim and the rotor. Remove
your hands and watch the wheel hanger do its magic!
6.
Re-install the bolts one by one using your fingers with a long impact
socket. Remember to tighten the bolts in a star shaped format, never
tighten them clockwise! Remove the wheel hanger and tighten all
bolts to the manufacturers torque measurements. NEVER tighten the
bolts with a impact gun, always do it by hand to prevent damage
to the bolt hole threads.
7. Raise jack and remove the jack stands.
Lower the jack and move it aside. Check the tire and pressure and
add air if necessary.
